FAQ

How does this online learning program work?
This is a self-discovery program which encourages everyone to take control of their own learning and to utilize their lifelong learning skills through exploration and PLAY. Participants are encouraged to work together and share with each other their discoveries, techniques and “how to’s” both in person and through their blogs. …”to teach is to really GET IT!”

Can I access this Blog from home?
Yes, this website is available 24/7.

Are there regular methods of communication?
Each week we will send reminders for the activities and “Things” to be addressing during the week. Email or contact any of the facilitators anytime, or use each other as fellow learners in the posting section of each “Thing”, or topic.

Is this program open to all library staff, or just some?
This program is open to all Librarians and library staff in the ILN community. It is a benefit if you are able to attend the introductory workshops at the 2008 ILN conference at AUS, but not essential. Certainly there would be great merit in sharing these ideas and resources with all staff within your library, even if you did get to the ILN workshops, so that everyone in your library can work through the weekly program together, share ideas and discoveries, and support each other to continue learning.

How long do I have to complete the program?
This program kicks off with the introductory workshops held at AUS on 22 and 23 November 2008, and officially wraps up at the end of March 2009. A weekly program listing the “Things” to explore together with suggested weekly targets to work through the program is here:  programplan

How do I track my progress for each of the 23 Things?
Everyone who chooses to participate in this program will be able to keep a Blog to track their progress. There will also be opportunity to contribute to this Blog in the postings at the bottom of pages. A certificate will be issued when the program is finished detailing the different 2.0 technologies that you have explored.

Will there be any training classes offered to show staff how to do this?
There is only an introductory workshop planned, as this is basically a self-directed learning program. If you feel you need assistance with an item, you are encouraged to be resourceful and to find a co-worker or perhaps a regional facilitator who can help.

Regional groups may decide that they would like to gather on different occasions in person, but that would need to be locally arranged. Responding to the posts of other people in this ‘Community of Learners’ also pools our collective knowledge - one of the pillars of Web 2.0 philosophies!

Can I work ahead through the list of items on my own?
Yes, of course. You are encouraged to self-direct your discovery process, especially by working ahead on your own. (NOTE that at this stage, not all content for the “Things” have been completed, but you are welcome to explore them once finished)

What if I need help - who can I call?
This program is largely self-directed, and you are encouraged to work with others in the ‘community’ along your discovery journey. A list of participants will be linked here once completed during the introductory sessions. On the “Contacts” page is a short list of facilitators who would be happy to help.
